Buses from Kahului Airport with Bus Routes and Times

The island of Maui doesn’t have a very widespread public transport system. There are no trains, but the County of Maui does, however, fund a public bus system that provides service in, and between, various communities in the Central, South, West, Kula and Upcountry regions, and two of them stop at the Kahului Airport. There is also a Shuttle Service available at the airport.

Buses to and from Kahului Airport

The Maui Bus stops are at marked locations in front of the terminal. After collecting your luggage please exit the building. Your bus will stop in zone #3, just follow the signs. All routes are operated seven days a week, including all holidays, and all vehicles are ADA accessible.

Both routes that stop at the airport run every 90 minutes:

Route 35, the Haiku Islander from 5.30 to 21.40/5.30 am to 9.40 pm. Full route from beginning to end takes 90 minutes. First stop at the airport is approximately 10 minutes after departure at origin, and second stop is approximately 20 minutes before arriving at the end stop.

Departs from Queen Ka’ahumanu Center and stops at:

  • Kamehameha Ave/Kamehameha Salvation Army
  • Kamehameha Ave/Ho’ohana St.
  • Kahului Airport Pick-Up Zone #3
  • Paia Town/Public Parking (to Haiku)
  • Haiku Marketplace
  • Pauwela Rd./Hana Hwy
  • Paia Town/Public Parking (to Kahului)
  • Kahului Airport Pick-Up Zone #3
  • Kamehameha Ave./Maui Mall
  • Kamehameha Ave./Kahului Shopping Ctr
  • Queen Ka’ahumanu Center

Route 40, the Upcountry Islander, from 6.00 to 22.11/6.00 am to 10.11 pm. Full route from beginning to end takes 90 minutes. First stop at the airport is approximately 10 minutes after departure at origin, and second stop is approximately 20 minutes before arriving at the end stop.

Departs from Queen Ka’ahumanu Center and stops at;

  • Kamehameha Ave/Kamehameha Salvation Army
  • Kamehameha Ave/Ho’ohana St.
  • Kahului Airport Pick-Up Zone #3

Tickets are bought from the driver on the bus. Price varies depending on where you are going.

Luggage Policy of Maui Bus

You are allowed one medium-sized suitcase, carry-on or duffel bag on board that must be placed under the passenger seat or on the passenger’s lap without protruding another seat or passenger.

Shuttle Services

The Maui Airport Shuttle Service is driven with Aloha by Roberts Hawaii and their counter is located in the baggage claim area, to the left, of the airport with no reservations needed in advance.

The counter is open from 5.30 in the morning until the last flight of the day.

The Roberts Hawaii Shuttle Service offers both one way and round-trip transfers between Kahului Airport, and lodging properties throughout Napili, Wailea, Honokowai, Kahana, Kahulu, Kihei, Lahaina, Ka’anapali and Makena.

Luggage Fees

One personal carry on and the first two bags on top of that are free of charge. This includes a golf bag. There is a small additional fee for any additional luggage over this limit. There is a slightly larger fee for larger luggage such as bicycles (must be in travel case or collapsible) and surfboards (maximum 6 ft).
